ALEXANDRIA, Va. — NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson recognized the importance of the alliances between credit unions, small businesses as the Small Business Administration celebrated National Small Business Week.

"NCUA promotes a credit union environment that fosters the entrepreneurial spirit for credit union members while maintaining a safe and sound credit union system," Johnson said last week. "I strongly support President Bush for fostering an economic and regulatory framework that gives credit unions the flexibility to provide affordable capital to its member-owners."

Johnson highlighted the work NCUA and SBA have done together, including the facilitation of Webinar programs on business lending services and SBA's loan programs. Credit unions have also demonstrated a strong commitment to small businesses through the promotion of individual development accounts, business development seminars and micro-enterprise lending, she added.
