Meriwest Credit Union, San Jose, Calif., received the Community Champion Award for supporting the Spring Break Anti-Drinking and Driving Campaign. This is the fourth year in a row that Meriwest has supported the Anti-Drunk Driving Initiative. Public service announcements regarding driver's safety and prevention of drunk driving ran on the San Jose State University's campus radio station through the end of spring break.

Langley Federal Credit Union, Newport News, Va., President/CEO Jean M. Yokum was honored with the 2008 Humanitarian Award from the Virginia Center of Inclusive Communities. The Humanitarian Award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated a personal commitment to the promotion of respect and understanding among people of diverse, racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. Yokum joined LFCU as a teller in 1953 and has been president/CEO since 1979.

Heritage Federal Credit Union, Newburgh, Ind., was recognized as a Diamond Award winner at the CUNA Marketing and Business Development Councils' annual meeting. Heritage FCU was recognized during the Diamond Awards celebration with The Cutting Edge of Marketing Award of Merit for 2008 in the Community Public Relations Category for credit unions' with an asset size of $100 million to $499 million in the non-agency category. Heritage FCU received the award for its public relations efforts in 2007 in supporting the troops overseas with Silly String and care packages.

AmeriCU Credit Union, Rome, N.Y., announced this quarter's recipient of the AmeriCU Employee Recognition Award as Janice Mancuse. Manuse was nomination by co-worker Wendy Bowers for her demonstration of competency, exemplary contribution above and beyond normal job requirements in sales and/or goals, efficiency, member relations and/or community support, and for exemplifying the image and standards of AmeriCU Credit Union.
Municipal Credit Union, New York City, announced that its President/CEO Kam Wong was honored by The National Council of Columbia Associations in Civil Service with its 2008 Leadership Award. Wong was presented the award at the NCCACS annual ceremony on April 13. Wong is the only recipient of the council's highest accolade who is not a civil servant.
Bronco Federal Credit Union, Franklin, Va., announced that Financial Advisor Leah-Beth Williams, registered through CUNA Brokerage Services, Inc., was named the 2007 Registered Member Financial Services Representative of the Year. As an rMSR Williams handles IRAs, annuities, and term life insurance for members of Bronco FCU. She also assists members in retirement planning and investment options. Williams received the award for her leadership and dedication demonstrated by her overall results from 2007.
Merck Sharp & Dohme Federal Credit Union, Chalfont, Pa., presented Hoffman Memorial Awards to five local high school seniors at its annual meeting. The Hoffman Memorial Award has recognized high school seniors who are active in their community, and represent the 'people helping people' philosophy of credit unions for 37 years. The ward was created in honor of Raymond O. Hoffman, founder and first president of MSDFCU. This year, recipients were awarded $5,000 each and were recognized at the meeting by W. Andrew McPherson, MSDFCU chairman, and David B. Whitehead, MSDFCU CEO. The students contributed nearly 5,900 hours toward community service efforts.
Afena Federal Credit Union, Marion, Ind., announced that Member Service Representative Dorothy Fisher celebrated her 25th Anniversary of serving the financial needs of Marion and greater Grant County at Afena FCU. Fisher works at the 424 N. Bradner Avenue branch.
1st United Services Credit Union, Union City, Calif., was a model for the Business Academy at James Logan High School for the Venture Capital competition the school took part in. The business academy created a sales & marketing campaign based upon 1st USCU. They used various tactics to promote 1st USCU to the younger generation, one being a YouTube video spoof on credit unions versus banks. Over 1,100 students attended the competition and over 50 schools highlighted their business models and James Logan High School placed in the top 10 in several categories.
Altura Credit Union, Riverside, Calif., was recognized with a California Award for Performance Excellence Silver Award. The award is the state's equivalent of the national Baldrige Quality Award. Altura CU also celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2007.
