MidSouth Federal Credit Union, Macon, Ga., made a sponsorship donation to the Macon Georgia Film & Video Festival. The festival was created to celebrate film & video and give light to films that rarely appear in Macon, such as independent, experimental, and short length films.
Credit Union of Texas, Dallas, donated $9,642 to the Children's Miracle Network. The donation was made possible by member and employee contributions through the sale of Entertainment Passbooks. The donation will benefit Children's Hospital in Dallas.
Afena Federal Credit Union, Marion, Ind., employees volunteered and helped provide the needy with warm meals. More than a dozen credit union staff and members, including Afena FCU President Sheila Burkhart, served breakfast and lunch at the Grant County Rescue Mission.
Columbia Credit Union, Vancouver, Wash., sponsored the Vancouver Heights “Neighborhood of the 150th” celebration and planted a total of 87 trees in the neighborhood. Volunteers that included Columbia CU employees planted the trees, served food, and helped coordinate the event. “Neighborhood of the 150th” honored one neighborhood that demonstrated the spirit of the community and a vision for its future. Columbia CU partnered with the City of Vancouver to honor the winning neighborhood with the event.
Chemcel Federal Credit Union, Bishop, Texas, donated $3,000 to the Kingsville American Little League to purchase a new scoreboard. Chemcel FCU also donated a sponsorship banner that will be displayed in the outfield. A $50.00 savings account will be opened by Chemcel FCU for any Kingsville American Little League player who hits a homerun and hits the sponsorship banner.
Northeast Credit Union, Portsmouth, N.H., made a donation to Barrington's Centennial Grange #185 to cover the cost of 489 dictionaries in support of The Dictionary Project. As part of the project, Grange and Northeast Credit Union will provide third grade students with their own personal dictionaries. The dictionaries will be distributed to elementary schools in Barrington, Northwood, Nottingham, Strafford, Deerfield, Auburn, and Candia. The Dictionary Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit association in all 50 states and receives its funding from donations and sponsors who introduce the program in their local schools.
Pacific Service Credit Union, Walnut Creek, Calif., donated a grant to Mercy Retirement & Care Center through its Community Involvement Program. The grant will provide 50 seniors with a 15-20 pound bag of groceries twice monthly for an entire year. Pacific Service CUs Community Involvement Program provides grants to various nonprofit organizations within its 12-county field of membership.
Altura Credit Union, Riverside, Calif., was a gold sponsor of the 29th Annual Black History Month Parade & Expo in Riverside, Calif. and contributed $5,000 to the event. Altura staff also handed out 750 promotional clappers to parade goers to cheer on marchers.
Security Service Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, donated $5,000 to Kriewald Road Elementary School. The school was the last of five schools to which Security Service made a $5,000 donation. Security Service also matched the school donations with $25,000 in awards to five new members.
Dow Chemicals Employees' Credit Union, Midland, Mich., employees built bicycles for local, underprivileged children. DCECU used Presidents Day as an in-servicing training day to build the bicycles. Ray's Bike Shop, bicycle supplier, had staff on hand to provide assistance during the bike-building exercise. Twenty-seven children, ages 7-11, received the new bicycles. Field Neurosciences Institute donated helmets and discussed the importance of helmet safety to the children.
United Educational Credit Union, Battle Creek, Mich., named Harper Creek Community Schools as a recipient of a $500 Bright Ideas Partnership Program grant. The grant will support “Project Beaver Bundles.” The project is designed to put readable materials into the homes of young emergent readers by providing a bag of assorted reading materials for families to use each month during the school year.
Valley First Credit Union, Fresno, Calif., has partnered with Fresno State Athletics as the presenting sponsor of the Jr. Bulldog Kids Club. The club is for boys and girls eight grade and under and offers benefits of complimentary admission to select Fresno State home athletic events, official Jr. Bulldog Kids' Club T-Shirt, membership credentials, newsletter, and the opportunity to attend special autograph sessions featuring Fresno State student-athletes. Valley First CU will provide educational information to be included in the newsletter mailings.
Sidney Federal Credit Union, Sidney, N.Y., employees, members, and Board of Directors collectively contributed $2,500 toward the construction of the memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. that will honor Martin Luther King, Jr. Employees contributed funds by holding “Casual-for-a-Cause” dress down days through out the year.
Greater Nevada Credit Union, South Lake Tahoe, Calif., executives raised money for the Nevada Special Olympics by participating in the Fifth Annual Polar Bear Plunge at South Lake Tahoe. Each participant needed to raise at least $100 to be a part of the event that included raffle prizes and a costume contest. Over $20,000 was raised by all at the event, with Greater Nevada CU contributing 10% of the total amount.
Los Angeles Federal Credit Union, Los Angeles, will sponsor a Checkpoint at the March for Babies event in Griffith Park on April 26 at 8 a.m. LAFCU will also collect monetary donations at LAFCU branches through April 18. March for Babies was formerly known as WalkAmerica. The new name is part of a larger March of Dimes initiative focused on all babies born healthy as well as those who need help to survive.
IC Credit Union, Fitchburg, Mass., will have a team participating in the 15th annual American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Last year, IC CU had 62 participants that raised almost $6,000. IC is hoping to beat that number in this year's walk that runs from June 6 thru June 7.
First Northern Credit Union, Rockford, Ill., co-sponsored Saturn of Rockford's 11th Annual Donor Day Drive at Saturn of Rockford. The event was held in conjunction with Rock River Valley Blood Center and a total of 278 people registered to donate blood. A total of 242 pints of blood were collected surpassing last year's 222 pints of blood. The blood collected will be donated to six area hospitals three of which are in Rockford.
Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, East Lansing, Mich., will award two graduating Michigan State University seniors a makeover through its Real World Makeover contest. The makeover includes a new professional wardrobe from Talbots or S&K Menswear, haircut, color, facial, massage from Douglas J Exchange, Spartan jewelry from Wheat Jewelers, Balfor class ring, graduation announcements, diploma frame, graduation cap and gown, a $100 gift card from the student book store, and $1,000 on their Michigan State University Federal Credit Union Visa Card.
Ent Federal Credit Union, Colorado Springs, Colo., provided 16,336 pounds of food to the Colorado Care and Share program. Ent FCU collected the food through monetary donations, an internal turkey drive, and collection barrels at all their service centers. Ent FCU employees brought in over 86 frozen turkeys.
