ALEXANDRIA, Va. — NCUA Executive Director J. Leonard Skiles has selected Office of Examination and Insurance Deputy Director Larry Fazio to be the deputy executive director of the NCUA.

Fazio will assist Skiles in managing the daily operation of the agency. Fazio started with the NCUA in 1991 as an examiner. In 1996, he was selected as a supervision analyst in Region IV and in 1999 was promoted to supervisory examiner in Region IV. In 2002, Fazio was selected to be the director of risk management in examination and insurance and was promoted to his current position in 2006.

"During Larry's over 17 years of experience at NCUA, he has played a crucial role in helping ensure the safety and soundness of the credit union system. His tireless work on a variety of issues ranging from examinations to capital reform has placed him at the pinnacle of his profession, and I am pleased that he will continue to the agency in this new capacity," Skiles said.

Fazio has a master's degree in organizational management from George Washington University and a bachelor's from Lewis University. Fazio also is a certified management accountant.

The deputy executive director position has been most recently held by Region III Associate Director of Programs Marcia Sarrazin, who has been serving on temporary assignment for the past 120 days. Prior to Sarrazin, Region 5 Associate Regional Director, Operations David M. Hibshman and Region II Associate Regional Director of Programs Scott Hunt both served for 120 days. The last person to fill the position on permanent assignment was Jane Walters current Region II director.
