SACRAMENTO, Calif. — William Haraf, Ph.D., has been appointed Commissioner of Financial Institutions for the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.

Haraf has served as an independent consultant with the Promontory Financial Group since 2005. He also has been a visiting professor of economics and finance for the Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Davis.

Previously from 1999 to 2003, Haraf was managing director at Bank of America Securities and from 1994 to 1999 was senior vice president of strategic policy development and planning for Bank of America.

Haraf was director of policy analysis with Citicorp from 1989 to 1994. From 1985 to 1989 he was a J. Edward Lundy Scholar and director of the financial markets project at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research and from 1984 to 1985 was special assistant to the chairman of President Ronald Reagan's Council of Economic Advisors.

He is also a past board member of the Bank Administration Institute and past chair of the Institute's strategic issue and regulatory affairs committees.
