WASHINGTON — CUNA President and CEO Dan Mica urged a record number of attendees at CUNA's Governmental Affairs Conference not to overreact to the admittedly bad economic news and to keep on a steady path toward helping CU members.

CUNA told the record breaking 4700 attendees that history has shown that bad times have brought credit union growth and that now is not the time to begin to withdraw from the market.

"History has shown us that economic trouble and uncertainty credit union's grow," Mica told attendees at the Mar. 4 general session. "People look for safety, compassion, sanity someone they can trust at times like these. Don't circle the wagons. Work with people. Make loans with logic, care and sound underwriting but make loans" he said. "Reach out to folks with toxic loans. You may not be able to help all, but the ones credit unions will help will find members for life." –[email protected].
