SHREVEPORT, La. — Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (D-Mich.), chairperson of the Congressional Black Caucus, will be the guest speaker at a March 4 networking reception hosted by the African-American Credit Union Coalition.
The reception, which will be held during CUNA's Governmental Affairs Conference next week, will take place at the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel at 5:00 p.m. The AACUC is encouraging those interested in attending to RSVP on its Web site (www.aacuc.org) as soon as possible.
Now in her sixth term serving Michigan's 13th Congressional District, Kilpatrick is also a member of the Financial Services Subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee overseeing the budgets of more than 20 governmental agencies, including the Treasury Department, NCUA and the Small Business Administration. She also serves on the Homeland Security Subcommittee. Kilpatrick's son, Kwame, is the mayor of Detroit.

Kilpatrick was unanimously elected chairperson of the Congressional Black Caucus for the 110th Congress and served as Co-Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's 36th Annual Legislative Conference. Formed in 1971, the 43-member CBC's mission is "to promote the public welfare through legislation designed to meet the needs of millions of neglected citizens."
