RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — Pick up an issue of today's USA Today, and you'll find a letter to the editor from Melia Meichelbock Keller, communications and marketing manager for the California Credit Union League.

Meichelbock Keller's letter was in response to a Jan. 1 article in the national daily paper that profiled women who have served in combat, and now suffer emotional problems as a result. The league marketing pro served in Iraq herself, and has written In the Company of Soldiers, a book that details her experiences there.

Though she can empathize with the women's stories, Meichelbock Keller cautions those who push for special emotional programs for enlisted women.

“I can hear the male soldiers' voices in my head already, saying, 'You guys need special treatment. You shouldn't be here,' or 'How are your emotional needs today?' Here's to stepping us back another century,” she stated in the letter.
