NEW YORK — Leaders from community development credit unions met with leaders from two New York City departments recently to discuss how CDCUs could take a larger role in fighting poverty in the city.
The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions hosted the meetings at its Manhattan offices and representatives of New York's Office of Financial Empowerment and Department of Homeless Services took part.
The leaders discussed expanding CDCU involvement in the Earned Income Tax Credit program which helps lower income New York City residents claim money from the federal government and the development of a financial literacy database that CDCUs could use to connect members with local organizations that offer different types of financial literacy training.
