AUSTIN, Tex. — In a title shift, the $425 million Velocity Credit Union said this week Larry Strong, its veteran CEO, is giving up his title as president with Debbie Mitchell, chief operating officer, assuming that job.

Mitchell becomes the first female to hold the presidency at the 60-year-old Austin CU.
CU officials emphasized that Strong, 60, will continue as CEO noting that the management change follows Strong's heart surgery last January.

Strong, who joined the staff in 1971 and became president in 1987, will also become a director of the CU in 2008.
