BROOMALL, Pa. — The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce has named Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union the Business of the Year.
The credit union was honored for its financial literacy initiatives throughout the community, as well as its commitment to Delco Hi-Q, the oldest continuous academic quiz competition in the United States.
FMFCU pioneered the establishment of five student-operated credit union branches in Delaware County high schools; Interboro, Upper Darby, Penn Wood, Springfield, and Strath Haven. The in-school financial facilities offer most of the products and services available at FMFCU's 19 other locations. By operating the branches, students learn all about business, banking and the non-profit world while gaining important leadership skills. In addition, FMFCU is distinguished to have reached more than 7,000 elementary, middle and high school students through its financial education seminars.

During an awards ceremony Chamber President Jeffrey G. Vermeulen said, "It's truly unique to see a very successful financial institution like Franklin Mint Credit Union stress an importance and philosophy on education. It's pretty awesome."
The Delaware County Chamber, one of the largest suburban chambers in Pennsylvania, serves over 3,000 businesses.
