NEW YORK — Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union saw the perfect opportunity to "parade" its contemporary approach, its commitment to values, and its unique products and services before a younger audience–the Pulaski Day Parade.

Recently, PSFCU donated $20,000 to perpetuate the venerable Pulaski Day Parade, which has been held each October since 1937 and is an annual celebration of everything Polish that resonates with the Polish-American community like no other event held in the U.S., according to the credit union.

As in prior years, the ethnic credit union stepped forward to be a Diamond sponsor of the parade. In addition to its financial support, the credit union pumps considerable time, resources and funds into promoting the tradition-rich day of celebration, it has been instrumental in keeping the revered parade viable year after year.

"We felt that this was an ideal opportunity to showcase not only our Polish pride, but all that we encompass as a thriving credit union that's in touch with members of all ages," said Bogdan Chmielewski, PSFCU's executive director. "This presents us with an excellent marketing opportunity to bring our message to those most likely to take advantage of what we have to offer."

For the thousands of people who lined Fifth Avenue in midtown Manhattan, the parade was a celebration of the Polish spirit and heritage. Amidst this year's pomp, PSFCU took center stage with a message that celebrated its youthful appeal and its rock-solid commitment to the Polish-American community.

The credit union commissioned two giant floats to travel the parade route, both celebrating the youth of the Polish community and the hope for a promising and prosperous future for all Polish-Americans. More than 100 PSFCU employees took part in the colorful march, not including the scores of children who spent the day on the floats wearing their uniforms and outfits from the various local sports teams and programs supported by PSFCU.

One PSFCU float featured a DJ, who entertained the passing crowd with the sounds of current Polish pop music. The other float was decorated with the symbol of the sun, to represent the hope and optimism of youth. This younger generation gathered in force on both sides of Fifth Avenue, while greeting the PSFCU contingent with loud cheers and applause.

"I am happy to say that we have had considerable success attracting young members. Out of 70,000 members we currently have, some 10,000 are 25 or younger," said Krzysztof Matyszczyk, chairman of the board. "There is a common misperception that a credit union, and ours in particular, is serving only middle-aged and older members. For us, this was a perfect opportunity to showcase our commitment to the next generation of Polish-Americans, and to remind the community that at 31, PSFCU is actually very young."
