RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — The California Credit Union League expressed disappointment and a degree of shock that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a measure THAT would have moved the card industry's data security standards into state law.

The League had backed the legislation and helped steer its heavily favored movement through the state legislature.

“This is disappointing news for consumers throughout California who remain without protection from data and credit card thefts,” said Bill Cheney, League president and CEO. “Credit unions believe strongly about protecting consumer data, and we pledge to renew our efforts to help pass this important measure as soon as the legislature reconvenes.”
