RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — CO-OP Shared Branching, the shared branching arm of CO-OP Financial Services, has begun to roll out a self-service kiosk that member credit unions can use in their branches.

Dubbed the Fast Branch, the kiosks will both allow participants in shared branching to help service members who have arrived seeking shared branching services without them having to use the teller line, according to Jim Hanisch, senior vice president for CO-OP.

Eventually, Hanisch said, CO-OP envisions a time when participating CUs with busy branches could have a bank of the Fast Branch kiosks that members could more quickly and easily use for routine transactions. In those cases there might be a teller assistant who would stand by to help members be able to use the machines, but the other tellers could be redeployed into helping members with other products and services.

"The model is really the airport check in counters," Hanisch said.

Carroll Beach, president of CO-OP Shared Branching, estimated that there are currently orders for 40 of the machines in the pipeline and that the CUSO has not even really begun to market them heavily yet. "We have received a great deal of response from credit unions who are enthusiastic about the possibilities," he said.
