WASHINGTON — Sandford “Sandy” Blitz is the Small Business Administration's new Region I director overseeing district offices in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut.

A former Economic Development Representative for the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration, Blitz was responsible for overseeing programs to foster business growth throughout New England. He has also served as the assistant commissioner of Public Building Services at the General Services Administration and as executive assistant to Mayor Nicholas Panuzio in Bridgeport, Conn.

Blitz is also currently managing a consulting firm that assists public and private institutions in obtaining government grants and loans, the SBA said.

Nearly 380 credit unions nationwide are now SBA lenders, according to the agency.
