WASHINGTON — Following the death of House Financial Services Committee Member Paul Gillmor (R-Ohio), Committee Ranking Member Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.) announced two new ranking member positions.

Gillmor, who died Sept. 5 from a fall down the stairs according to reports, was the ranking member on the Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee. Congresswoman Judy Biggert (R-Ill.) will fill that vacancy. "It would be impossible to truly fill the large shoes left by my late friend, Paul Gillmor, but I hope as to live up to his good example of hard work and bipartisan cooperation," Biggert said.

Shelley Moore Capito (R-W. Va.) will serve as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity, which Biggert is vacating.

"During my service on the Committee," Bachus said, "I have gotten to know Representatives Biggert and Capito very well. Both colleagues are top-notch legislators who will perform their new duties with integrity, thoughtfulness, and energy. Ranking Member Gillmor was not only an outstanding legislator, he was a good man who was a friend to all on the Committee, and we will miss him deeply."
