WASHINGTON — Three Republicans and one Democrat have signed on to show their support for the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (H.R. 1537).
The bill is racing toward the 125 the legislation topped out at last Congress with 118 in just four months since its introduction in the 110th Congress. The Democrats are dominating the list with 78, but Republicans are catching up at 40. After CURIA lost 11 co-sponsors from the 109th Congress because they are no longer serving in the House, including eight Republicans, the bill has made up ground with 22 new co-sponsors so far this year.
Rob Bishop (R-Utah), John Doolittle (R-Calif.), Kevin Brady (R-Texas), and Alan Mollohan (D-W.Va.) all signed up as co-sponsors to the credit union flagship legislation recently. Doolittle is new to the bill. Bishop had co-sponsored the bill in the 108th Congress, but not the 109th. Brady and Mollohan were both on the bill in the 109th Congress.
