WASHINGTON — One Democrat and one Republican lawmaker signed back on to co-sponsor CURIA bringing the total to 118.
Kevin Brady (R-Texas) and Alan Mollohan (D-W.Va.), who were co-sponsors last Congress, added their names again yesterday. The two put the total co-sponsors, including primary sponsor Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.) at 118, just seven away from the 125 of the entire two years of the last Congress. The party split is now 78 Democrats and 40 Republicans backing the bill.
Lobbyists have said the level of co-sponsors demonstrates strong support for the bill and may help with scheduling a hearing, but at this point, nothing is expected before the month-long August recess.
