WASHINGTON — Co-sponsorship of the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (H.R. 1537) is racing toward the 125 the legislation topped out at last Congress.
Two Republican Congressmen Rob Bishop (R-Utah), who had been a co-sponsor in the 108th Congress but not last Congress, and John Doolittle (R-Calif.), who is new to the bill this year, added their names yesterday to the growing list of co-sponsors. The grand total for CURIA co-sponsors in the 110th Congress is now 116, including Congressman Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.), the bill's primary sponsor.
The Democrats are dominating the list with 77, but Republicans are catching up at 39. After CURIA lost 11 co-sponsors because they are no longer serving in the House, including eight Republicans, the bill has 22 new co-sponsors this year.
