RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Altura Credit Union Vice President of Marketing Donna Michalka is setting her sights on a Riverside City Council seat.
Michalka was one of five candidates running for the open seat in Ward 5, one of seven wards that make up the city's elected representatives. None of the Ward 5 candidates secured 50% of the vote, plus one, the requirement for winning the June election outright.
The runoff election is set for November.
Altura and the California Credit Union League both supported Michalka's bid for the city council seat in the primary election and will continue to do so in the runoff.
"We have a strong commitment to the community, and encourage our employees to give back to the community however they can," said Ricki McManuis, senior vice president, marketing and corporate communications at Altura CU. McManuis herself ran for a seat on the local college board of trustees earlier this year.
Michalka has also been endorsed by the Riverside Police Administration Association, Riverside City Firefighters' Association, Press Enterprise newspaper and Riverside Sheriff's Association.
Born and raised in Riverside, Michalka has long been active in the community serving on many boards and committees of Riverside-area civic, charitable and community groups. With Altura for six years, she has more than 15 years experience in marketing and business development.
"Altura's support of my campaign for Ward 5, as well as the California Credit Union League's support, has been amazing to me. I can't imagine another employer or industry giving this kind of support for an employee to run for public office," said Michalka. "I know it's because they both truly believe in serving the community, and my public service to the community is the kind of support that can make a difference."
