WASHINGTON — Co-sponsorship for the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (H.R. 1537) is gaining ground almost daily.

After adding two co-sponsors last Thursday and one on Tuesday, three more federal legislators added their names as co-sponsors for CURIA late yesterday. Democrats Donald Payne (N.J.), Jesse Jackson (Ill.), and Steven Rothman (N.J.) signed on yesterday; all three were co-sponsors last congressional session.

These latest additions bring total congressional support for the bill up to 86. In the 109th Congress, the bill reached 125. Lobbyists have been pushing for co-sponsorship to grease the wheels as CURIA moves through Congress facing strong opposition from the banking trades.
