RIVERWOODS, Ill. — Discover Financial Services, a business unit of Morgan Stanley, has introduced a newly enhanced reward card and an affinity card tied to women's basketball.

The new Miles by Discover card gives active cardholders the ability to travel with no restrictions, earn unlimited miles that never expire, and redeem faster with more options, the card brand said.

“Consumers are looking for miles programs that allow them to fly faster without restrictions and we've done just that with our new Miles Card. It eliminates the need for any worries about travel restrictions or blackout dates,” said Margo Georgiadis, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Discover Financial Services.

“The new Miles Card puts consumers in complete control of redeeming their miles, lets them redeem for more travel options, and offers travel credits starting at just 5,000 miles,” she added.

The product provides a superior rewards experience for any consumer who wants to earn free travel faster, without restrictions, Discover said. With the new Miles Card, cardholders can book their own travel, through any travel source, at any time–any airline, cruise, hotel, vacation package or car rental. It is built upon the same heritage of innovative rewards, unmatched customer service and fraud protection that serve as core elements of all Discover Cards. The new card allows cardholders to book their travel whether it's through an airline or travel agent or online. They can select any airline, cruise, hotel, vacation package or car rental with no advance booking and no blackout dates. Cardholders can simply pay with their Miles Card and redeem their available miles for account credits for their travel purchases. The card allows cardholders to earn Double Miles on travel and restaurant purchases up to $3,000 per year, in addition to earning one mile for every dollar they spend on all other business and personal purchases. The miles never expire and can be redeemed for travel credits earlier.

In a similarly timed, but unrelated announcement, Discover also announced that it is releasing an affinity card tied to the WNBA.

WNBA fans who apply for the team-affiliated card, as well as existing Discover cardholders, will have access to the unique “Discover Card Fan Lounge” at select WNBA arenas. Fans can show their Discover Card to gain access to the Lounge and have the chance to meet WNBA players while enjoying a VIP experience.

The new Affinity Cards featuring the 13 WNBA teams are part of the multi-year agreement signed last year between Discover Card and the WNBA making Discover Card the official credit card of the WNBA.

“Our new WNBA Team Affinity Cards are another example of Discover Card's efforts to bring new and exciting benefits to our cardmembers as well as WNBA fans,” said Dana Traci, vice president of retail partner marketing for Discover. Discover card will also make a $20 donation to WNBA Cares charitable partners to be identified at the launch of the season for each new account upon first purchase. –[email protected]
