Workers’ Credit Union, Fitchburg, Mass., contributed $25,000 toward the $3 million capital campaign to improve ARC Community Services’ Fitchburg facility located on Main Street. ARC Community Services provides support and residential services for the disabled citizens of North Central Massachusetts. Municipal Credit Union, New York, recently donated three state-of-the-art, specially prepared bicycles to the Yonkers Police Department in conjunction with the Yonkers Downtown/Waterfront BID. The bikes will help the police patrol the city’s downtown area. The bicycles were presented during a ceremony at Getty Square in the heart of Yonkers. The idea of donating the bikes came from a conversation between Edward Montgomery of MCU and Ronald Law of Yonkers BID, who were looking for a way to help the Yonkers’ community and police department. The answer was the customized bikes, which are as rugged and agile as the dedicated officers who ride them around the hilly and often precarious Getty Square area, according to the credit union. Cal State 9 Credit Union, Concord, Calif., donated 60 computers to the Mt. Diablo Unified School District to be used by students throughout the district. The Mt. Diablo Unified School District serves approximately 35,383 students at 49 schools located throughout Contra Costa County. Cal State 9 plays an active role in the communities it serves and is proud to support schools and education programs in the area. Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union, Kingston, N.Y., has donated $305 to the CENTER for Performing Arts in Rhinebeck for its “Kids on Stage” scholarship program as a result of the checks collected from the CU’s check writing booth at the annual Family Fun Fair. The check writing booth is a tradition at the fair committed to teaching children valuable financial skills and demonstrating MHV’s commitment to its community. Courtesy of Clarke-American, the children wrote non-negotiable Super Hero checks to “Kids on Stage” for $5, each with a promise of a real matching donation from the CU’s Community Relations fund. The final count was a total of 61 checks for a total of $305 to support local children’s theater. Perillo Tours, Paragon Federal Credit Union, The Footprints in the Sand Foundation and several merchants recently hosted “A Tour of Italy” at Paragon Federal Credit Union’s main branch and headquarters in Montvale, N.J. All proceeds benefited the Footprints in the Sand Foundation and The Tomorrows Children’s Fund. Steve Perillo of Perillo Tours and representatives of the Italian Government Tourist Board were in attendance to greet guests and answer questions about travel to Italy. In addition, Perillo Tours raffled off a Roman Holiday Tour for two to one lucky winner and Eurofly Airlines raffled off two airline tickets to Italy combined with a three-night stay for two at the Altesino Winery in Tuscany donated by Winebow. Many donated food, drinks and entertainment for the event. The CU also raised $54,000 in cash during the food drive. Altura Credit Union, Riverside, Calif., recently donated $5,100 to the Murrieta Public Library. The money was raised at the recent grand opening of Altura’s Murrieta Branch. Guests at the grand opening gala were asked to donate funds to either the local library or local schools. Altura offered to match donations. Most guests designated Murrieta Public Library and Altura matched the funds. Numerica Credit Union, Spokane, Wash., sponsored the KREM 2 Tom’s Turkey Drive, the area’s premier food drive that raises food and money donations for Second Harvest Food Bank of the Inland Northwest. The food drive was a two-day event that took place at Spokane and Deer Park Rosauers grocery stores. The drive is aptly named after its creator, Tom Sherry, KREM 2′s lead meteorologist.
