Columbia Credit Union Expels Members Who Fought Bank Conversion

Members of the $725 million Columbia Community Credit Union voted to expel the two board members and one supervisory committee candidate who belonged to an organization that led the CU's resistance to a move to change its charter to a mutual bank in 2003.

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Members of the $725 million Columbia Community Credit Union voted to expel the two board members and one supervisory committee candidate who belonged to an organization that led the CU’s resistance to a move to change its charter to a mutual bank in 2003.

Robert Schafer, lawyer for the Save Columbia Credit Union organization, said that just over 1,200 votes were cast in a three-hour period even though roughly only 250 people attended the full special meeting to discuss the pending expulsions. Cathryn Chudy and Kathryn Edgecomb were removed from the board and expelled. Lloyd Marbet was removed from the supervisory committee ballot and expelled.
