HARRISBURG, Pa. — For International Credit Union Day, Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union opted to put "people helping people" into action rather than its usual giveaways, balloons, visiting cow and the WNNK 104 Boom Box.
Given this year's theme, "Making a World of Difference," the credit union wanted to do more. PSECU traditionally gives the majority of its WNNK 104 remote broadcast airtime spots to nonprofits they support over the year.
"By doing this, PSECU expands on our support to these organizations," said PSECU Marketing Vice President Barb Bowker. "This way, they have another venue for their message."

This year, along with all of the remote broadcast spots, PSECU Senior Management allowed nine employees to move their offices elsewhere–spending the day helping local nonprofit organizations. Staffers received their normal pay for the day, but they reported to the American Red Cross, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, and the Greater Harrisburg YWCA to repack food, clean common areas in a shelter, help with telephone calls, organize food and clothing banks, and any other type of assignment that came their way.
"Our hope in doing this is to make a difference by going beyond just providing financial support for these organizations. We also want to show the communities that we serve what our members already know–that PSECU is an active participant and truly cares about improving their quality of life," said Bowker.
