WASHINGTON — President George W. Bush applauded credit unions' efforts to serve their members and for aiding the growing economy in honor of International Credit Union Day, observed Oct. 19.
"Our Nation's economy prospers when we trust the American people to save, spend, and invest their money as they see fit," he wrote. "By providing valuable services and support, credit unions help meet the financial needs of millions of individuals in the United States and around the world. These institutions help men and women increase their financial security and achieve their dreams.
"I appreciate credit union employees for serving your members with hard work and professionalism. Your efforts demonstrate a commitment to assisting others, encourage economic development and help our communities stay prosperous and strong."
