Cal State 9 Credit Union, Concord, Calif., recently donated $7,478 to the Children's Miracle Network. The annual donation is comprised of funds given by Cal State 9 employees, and matching funds from the credit union. CMN donations to the Children's Hospital of Oakland enable the hospital to provide millions of dollars of care every year, and to purchase vital equipment and supplies for its Pediatric Trauma Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In other donation news from Cal State 9, the credit union also donated 13 computers to California State University East Bay to be used by deserving students on campus. Desktop computers and laptops were donated to both the Department of Student Academic Services and to the Student Disability Resource Center. Connex Credit Union, North Haven, Conn., recently held a sweepstakes and awarded one lucky winner a new car. During the festivities a 2006 Ford Mustang was awarded to Linda Dzienkiewicz of Naugatuck. Events also included a barbeque, costumed characters and gifts for everyone. In other donation news at Connex CU, college scholarships were recently awarded. The credit union, along with M&M Group Benefits, a provider of auto and home insurance to Connex CU members, awarded 7, $500 scholarships to Connex members who are new or returning college students. Jennifer Hawes, Jessica Embacher, Carin Newman, Kayce Hicks, Jonathan Clark, Christopher Hart and Mark Shanahan were the recipients of this year's scholarships. And still the Connex was able to give more by donating $8,000 to the Hamden/North Haven YMCA Strong Kids Campaign to assist Hamden and North Haven youth in attending summer camp. MCT Federal Credit Union, Rockville, Md., recently awarded $1,500 Bill Teel Memorial Scholarships to five young members. The scholarship winners were selected from a field of more than 50 applicants and are considered among the brightest students from Montgomery County. All candidates submitted essays that explain how their education would help them pursue their career dreams. These essays, plus their record of community and in-school volunteer service, were considered in the selection process. The winners are: Rebecca Bryant, Colleen Bush, Haris Khan, Hannah Wilson and Benjamin Schanker. IAA Credit Union, Bloomington, Ill., recently announced the recipients of its 2006 Scholarship program. The purpose of the scholarships is to recognize the children of the employees of the companies who sponsor the IAA Credit Union as an employee benefit. Three scholarships were awarded: one for $1,000 and two for $500. The scholarships were awarded based on exceptional scholastic ability, leadership and character. Doug Lewis was awarded the $1,000 scholarship and Anne Stein and Keri Riggs each received $500 scholarships. American First Credit Union, La Habra, Calif., recently donated $10,000 to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. The donation was collected from weekly contributions employees made to the "Credit Union for Kids" program over the past year. By participating in the program for the past nine years, American First Credit Union employees have raised and donated over $89,000 to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. To display their support of the cause, contributing employees wore "Credit Unions for Kids" polo shirts once a week. Texas Partners Federal Credit Union, Killeen, Texas, holds fast to the credit union philosophy of "People Helping People" through its support of the March of Dimes. The CU recently donated $4,600 to the March of Dimes, and for its efforts, received the 2nd Place Local Company Award. Texas Partners has supported the March of Dimes since 1999 and raises funds through shoe sales, Blue Jeans for Babies, Bean Bag Baby sales, a garage sale, a spaghetti lunch and employees are encouraged to raise money on their own.
