NEW YORK — The $1 billion Polish and Slavic Federal Credit Union became the chief sponsor this year of New York's annual Pulaski Day Parade. Polish Americans marching in the parade commemorate General Casimir Pulaski, a Pole who was killed in action while fighting for American independence in 1779.
"Nothing instills pride in the Polish community more than the Pulaski Day Parade," said Krzysztof Matyszczyk, chairman of PSFCU. "A parade is a time for celebrating heritage, honoring tradition and showcasing one's commitment to our members. Since our credit union is recognized as the pillar of this community, we have a sense of responsibility for perpetuating this wonderful celebration."
Ninety of PSFCU's employees marched ahead of the 30-foot corporate float that was festooned with balloons, corporate insignia, and a giant oversized coin commemorating the credit union's upcoming 30th anniversary, the CU said.

As one of the first groups to kick off the parade, the PSFCU procession proudly portrayed the credit union's commitment to the community. As the rain held off, the PSFCU's red, white and blue umbrellas served as colorful accents to the giant "disco" float that followed behind, dispensing the sounds of popular Polish hits for the benefit of those cheering on the parade.
"This is truly a wonderful day for the Polish community, and one that we look forward to all year," said Matyszczyk. "We obviously feel that our sponsorship of this event is such a natural fit since both the credit union and the parade play such an important role in the lives of the Polish community."
