In the Midwest, the 15 chapters of the Ohio Credit Union League will spread the word during Media Sweets Week. News outlets such as radio and TV stations and newspapers will get visits from credit union representatives as well as candy bars and information about credit unions. Last year, the league delivered 169 packets to media outlets. Ohio credit unions also are running the Ohio Credit Union Food Drive through Oct. 31 to provide food to needy residents. Since 1948, ICU Day has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October. The day has been set aside to reflect upon the credit union movement's history and to promote its achievements. It's about honoring the people that have dedicated their lives to the movement and is an opportunity to raise funds for worthy credit union causes. Credit unions and associations throughout the world celebrate the day with open houses, contests, picnics and parades.
