HARRISBURG, Pa. — WGAL 8, the NBC affiliate in the Harrisburg/Lancaster market, recognized the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association's "Better Choice Program" during a segment on the newscast about payday loans.

The report featured a Harrisburg woman who is deep in debt as a result of a short-term loan she acquired through an online payday loan source.

Credit unions were recognized for providing an alternative to payday loans through the PCUA's Better Choice Program that was developed in partnership with the state Treasury and Banking Departments.

The segment featured a picture of the PCUA headquarters and included an interview with Senior Vice President of Communications & Marketing Mike Wishnow concerning the Better Choice Program.

In related news, state Treasurer Robert Casey Jr. has sent letters to credit unions throughout Pennsylvania urging them to enroll in the Better Choice Program by Oct. 18.

So far, 23 CUs with 103 branches across the state have signed on to the program.
