FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Getting a head start on International Credit Union Day Oct. 15, the Washington Credit Union League is offering nationwide what it calls a "special value" limited edition commemorate poster drawn by an internationally renowned paper-cut artist from Washington state.
"This is a valuable opportunity to remind our members and credit unions that we are all part of a bigger, international movement," explained Washington Credit Union League President and CEO John Annaloro who kicked off the national poster promotion at the league's annual convention in Seattle last month.
The poster themed, "Sow the Seeds of Your Financial Future" by artist Nikki McClure of Olympia, sells for $10 apiece and $5 for each additional poster.
"However, the value of the limited edition art posters will increase as supplies dwindle," said the league, noting that only 1,000 were printed this year. The league said the distribution of the posters would be a yearly event with posters sold to CUs, members and trade groups across the U.S.
Stacy Augustine, senior vice president of policy and public advocacy, said the league "hopes to build a fan base for the art that inspires credit union volunteers, members and staff." She added, "The collectible poster was created with the intent of subtly teaching members and even our own employees about the credit union difference."
The 14" x 18" poster depicts a hand carefully sowing seeds in the soil. "This image," said the league, "paired with the tagline asks the onlooker to visualize their own investments growing from something as small as a seedling into a financial oak tree."
"The poster gives the comforting notion that anyone can start with something small--and with the help of the credit union movement--watch it grow," noted a press release.
McClure's artistic style involves "a long and painstaking process of cutting out images from a single piece of paper using only an X-Acto knife. She has been creating this style of art simply called "paper-cuts" since 1996. "Her other works include images of activism, motherhood, and nature," said the league. [email protected]
