In May, Achieva Credit Union, Largo, Fla., raised $20,275 for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. At an awards banquet held recently, Achieva took home four trophies for its involvement in the Palm Harbor Relay for Life, including the top prize: “Most Funds Raised.” In addition, they received a trophy for “Best Campsite” for their Mexican Cantina design. The Palm Harbor Relay for Life committee also created an award just for Achieva: “Rookie of the Year.” President/CEO Wendell Brooks received a “Star Supporter” trophy for his involvement. Achieva’s donation was raised in only three months through many internal and external events–pancake breakfasts, a yard sale, a car wash, handmade jewelry sales, and more. Truliant Federal Credit Union, Winston-Salem, N.C., earned statewide recognition for its community service programs at the 71st annual meeting of the North Carolina Credit Union League. Truliant won honorable mention in the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award statewide competition. The annual Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award recognizes and promotes credit unions’ social responsibility efforts within the communities they serve. Credit unions enter the program in separate asset categories, which allows them to compete fairly against credit unions of equal size and resources. Truliant competed in the $500+ million-asset category.
