COLUMBUS, Ohio — Members First Credit Union, in partnership with Fireproof Records Centers and Ohio Computer Recycling, hosted its first annual E-Recycling Week August 7-12.

Throughout the week, members of the credit union and local community brought in over 700 computer items such as personal computers, laptops, monitors, printers, scanners, and keyboards to be recycled.

Shredding was also available, and Members First CU collected over 851 pounds of shredding.

Anyone disposing of sensitive documents, computer paraphernalia or cell phones were given certificates of destruction certifying information and materials were properly destroyed and disposed.

According to Ohio Computer Recycling, "E-Waste including computers, computer-related equipment, PDA's, copiers, etc. is the fastest growing segment of municipal solid waste. Recycling e-waste decreases threats to human health and the environment, conserves natural resources, saves energy and reduces the burden on landfills."

All computers and equipment brought to E-Recycling Week were recycled in accordance with Ohio EPA guidelines.
