FITCHBURG, Mass. — Workers' Credit Union's board of directors has approved the merger of two credit unions into its fold.

On Sept. 12, members will vote to approve the mergers of $11 million Peoples Community Credit Union and $1.3 million Crobank Credit Union into $547 million Workers' CU.

According to NCUA data, Peoples Community CU serves 2,606 members and Crobank CU serves 184 members. Workers' CU said it plans to open another branch at People's headquarters as well as bring on its nine employees. Crobank had been seeking a merger partner for the past several months, in part due to the impact that the closing of Crocker-Burbank paper mills, its main sponsor, has had on operations.
