WASHINGTON — Fannie Mae can breathe a little easier.
The housing government sponsored enterprise was informed by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, which has been investigating Fannie Mae's accounting policies and practices, that it is discontinuing its investigation and does not plan to file charges against the company.
In May, Fannie Mae announced it had agreed to comprehensive settlements concerning matters with the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

As part of that agreement, Fannie Mae agreed to implement corrective measures and pay a collective penalty of $400 million
