SEATTLE — As the movement prepares to usher in the next generation of CEOs, the AACUC is doing its part to bring more of them to credit unions through its internship programs.

Nearly 20 interns that have gone through the program have either gone on to work full time or have worked at credit unions, according to Bert Hash, chair of the AACUC internship committee and president/CEO of Municipal Employees CU of Baltimore, Inc. This summer, 40 interns were placed including Myisha Henry, who just landed a position in human resources at State Employees CU of Maryland. Henry also received offers from MECU of Baltimore and Aberdeen Proving Ground FCU, but went with SECU because it offered her more flexibility in the HR department.

"The AACUC [internship program] has been a bridge to real world experience," Henry said. "It's one thing to take a course in college but it's another thing to gain real experience when you go out into the field."

Other AACUC interns have gone on to work at Navy FCU's CUSO, Houston Municipal CU, Coca-Cola CU, Georgia Power CU, Aberdeen Proving Ground FCU, and Atlanta City Employees CU. Since the internship program started a few years ago, more than 200 college students have interned at CUs and other related organizations and trade groups.

In fact, Carleen Ramlochansingh, who graduated from Morgan State University in May and interned at $1.2 billion Municipal CU and Fannie Mae this summer, made such an impression on CEO Bill Porter, he hired her during AACUC's conference after she made a public appeal during a presentation.
