ORLANDO, Fla. — During CUNA’s recent Technology Council meeting in Orlando, NCUA Board Member Gigi Hyland emphasized the crucial role IT professionals play in the future of credit unions. “Credit unions are all about serving their members,” she told attendees, “IT is the cornerstone from which credit unions build their delivery of services, security of member data, and compliance efforts.” She discussed current and up and coming issues like multifactor authentication requirements, data security, plastic card fraud, and identity theft. Hyland also touched on other timely regulatory issues of interest to NCUA and credit unions including the data collection pilot. “NCUA is charged with providing the GAO with data and analysis of credit unions’ service to people of modest means. The response to GAO, however, must take into consideration of each credit union their specific field of membership, and efforts to reach out to all segments of their membership,” she highlighted.
