ROCHESTER, N.H. – Holy Rosary Credit Union is gearing up to launch a student run, credit union branch at the Richard Creteau Regional Technology Center this fall. Partnering with the Rochester School Department, HRCU's "teaching" branch is designed to introduce students to all aspects of banking. The timing turns out to be perfect as the Technology Center has been developing a concentration in Finance for their students this year. With help from HRCU the curriculum will introduce students to lending, marketing, accounting and other areas of the credit union business. Students will learn to work in a business environment and how to interact with members, giving them valuable work experience. Working at the credit union will be the capstone course for this concentration. Leah Esslinger, an HRCU employee with over nine years of experience, who will work in conjunction with Linda Crosby an experienced business teacher, with banking experience, will manage the branch. "By its opening in September, HRCU will have totally revamped the old engine repair classroom to be a state-of-the-art credit union and classroom," said Esslinger. "The room which is designed by Rainer Schwake of Artstream in Rochester, will be bright and fun as well as functional and will appeal to both high school age employees and members." Viewed as an opportunity to work with the youth in the community and create a financial learning experience destination, the branch will include teller and members service functions, an ATM, a classroom with state of the art audio visuals and a computer lab and conference facilities for seminars. When the branch opens in September, it will be available only to students and faculty. Beginning in October all HRCU members will be able to use the ATM and branch to do transactions.
