MARION, Ind. – Afena Federal Credit Union provided a warm welcome to area Beacon Credit Union members after a strong storm producing hurricane-like winds up to 80 mph left thousands of households and local businesses-including Beacon CU's Marion branch-without power. As part of a Disaster Preparedness Policy and Procedures reciprocal agreement, Beacon CU members were able to do their banking at Afena FCU. "In the case of a disaster that renders either of our credit unions incapable of offering services to our members in the Marion area, we agree to provide adequate space to the affected credit union to ensure continued operations," said Afena President/CEO Sheila Burkhart. "We cleared a window for one of their tellers to conduct transactions, and she had several Beacon CU members stop in to conduct transactions throughout the day." Beacon CU regained power the next day late in the afternoon and was able to reopen its Marion branch for normal operations the following day.
