HOPKINTON, Mass. – Information management giant EMC Corp. is buying RSA Security Inc. for about $2.1 billion. “Businesses can’t secure what they don’t manage, and when it comes to securing information, that means simply two things-managing the data and managing access to the data,” says Joe Tucci, chairman, president and CEO of EMC in Hopkinton, Mass. “Bringing RSA into the fold provides EMC with industry-leading identity and access management technologies and best-in-class encryption and key management software to help EMC securely deliver information lifecycle management,” Tucci says. Bedford, Mass.-based RSA Security was known for its SecurID multifactor authentication tokens and its BSafe line of encryption and privacy products and had recently bought two firms well known in credit union land: PassMark Security, the California-based pioneer in multi-factor online banking sign-ons, and Cyota Inc., the New York-based provider of ISP authentication and financial services anti-fraud networks. The purchase is expected to close later this year.
