America First CU Donates $10,000 for Cancer Research

OGDEN, Utah – America First Credit Union donated $10,000 to the American Cancer Society during this year’s Relay For Life event. In addition, AFCU relay participants raised more than $7,500 during the event, which will also be used for cancer research. Seventy-five AFCU employees from the operations center in Riverdale and surrounding branches participated in the event. All 75 participants have either lost a loved one, battled cancer themselves, or just wanted to take the opportunity to support one another during this memorable relay. About 20 participants on the America First team that participated in this event are cancer survivors. “Many people involved in this relay are motivated by the thought of supporting family, friends or loved ones that they have lost, or who have battled cancer,” said JoLyn Hathaway, America First employee and team captain. “We had a lot of participants that haven’t experienced a personal connection with cancer that also wanted to be involved in this race to show their true support.” One successful fundraiser, held during Relay for Life, was the Miss Relay Contest. Gentlemen participating in the race dressed as women in order to collect donations on behalf of the American Cancer Society. One 12-year old boy affiliated with America First dressed as a hula girl. The fundraiser generated $550 in 15 minutes. America First is still totaling the amount of money raised during the event, but anticipates that it will well exceed $7,500.
