NORTH AUGUST, S.C. – SRP Federal Credit Union and Columbia County Schools have joined forces to open a credit union branch at Belair Elementary. Business Development Manager Yvonne Meeks, who coordinated the partnership with Columbia County School Superintendent Tommy Price and Belair Elementary Principal Mark Boyd, says the move is a first for Columbia County Schools. Fourth and fifth graders will be trained to act as both tellers and transaction specialists to check and balance the deposits as well as member service representatives to open and handle accounts. "That way, when the fifth graders move on to middle school, the next generation of fifth graders will already be prepared to take over," said Meeks. Students will only be allowed to make deposits and they will receive monthly statements to track their savings progress.
