CMT Federal Credit Union, Fairfield, Calif., has gone back to the 1950s to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The 50th anniversary celebration event is built around a sweepstakes drawing with three home size CD jukeboxes as the grand prizes. Continuing the 1950s theme are special anniversary loan rates and bonus gifts given with CMT products and services. These include a die-cast 1950s model car with a vehicle loan, a mini-jukebox with a mortgage or home equity loan and a 1950s rock `n' roll music CD for each new member referral who joins the CU. The celebration will run through June 30 and the drawing for the jukeboxes will take place on June 19 at CMT's annual meeting. April 2006 marks the 70th anniversary of Langley Federal Credit Union, Newport News, Va. Chartered on April 17, 1936, by a group of 25 members of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (later to become NASA), each deposited $1 to cover the chartering fee. At the time, the assets totaled $250 and the first office was donated by NACA. Langley has grown to more than 140,000 members with over $1 billion in assets, ranking the financial institution as one of the top 100 largest credit unions in the nation. To commemorate the occasion, a special "Celebrating 70 Years of Service" insignia was created for use during the 2006 anniversary year. The board of directors and staff at Greater TEXAS Federal Credit Union, Austin, Texas, congratulate President/CEO Tommy D. Seargeant for his 30 years of service to GTFCU. Seargeant was recently recognized at the CU's annual meeting for his contributions to the credit union movement. He began his career in 1976, when the credit union had $4 million in assets, about 4,000 members and one location. Today the credit union operates 14 branches, has more than $240 million in assets and serves 62,000 members. Seargeant was presented with a NAFCU Service Award, a Governor's Proclamation and 30 roses from his loving family. Postal Credit Union, Woodbury, Minn., celebrates its 80th anniversary of service this year. PCU opened its doors in 1926 as a small credit union serving St. Paul postal employees. Today PCU is the ninth largest CU in Minnesota, with more than $400 million in assets and a field of membership that includes anyone in Anoka, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington counties. America's First Federal Credit Union, Birmingham, Ala., announced that it has reached $700 million in assets, a significant milestone in a 70-year history. The credit union has shown tremendous growth over the past year and a half, amassing over $73 million in assets. The credit union saw a unique opportunity for growth with its conversion to a community charter in June 2005, but first had to change its marketing approach from one of product promotion to one of education. By reaching this mark, Birmingham's largest community-chartered credit union, also claims the title as Alabama's largest community-chartered credit union.
