REDLANDS, Calif. – Pete Aguilar, director of governmental affairs at Arrowhead Credit Union, is the city council's newest member. According to the San Bernardino County Sun, Aguilar was unanimously voted in on April 18 by the council as the replacement for former Councilwoman Susan Peppler, who resigned at the beginning of April. "We all come to this community with the purpose of continuing the tradition and uniqueness that makes it so special," Aguilar told the council, the publication reported. "Our city has a long and distinguished, but also a very promising, future." Aguilar said he was surprised, humbled and pleased with his appointment, according to the article. The Arrowhead CU staffer was joined by his wife Alisha and 10-week old son Palmer. Aguilar's father Herman said his son got his first taste of politics at the age of 10 when he wrote a letter to an oil company telling representatives they should be ashamed about an oil spill at the time, the Sun reported. "He needed to say his peace, and Peter has been a very concerned citizen from that time," his father said. "There's no one more proud than me." Councilman Mick Gallagher said Aguilar is a "bright, bright, bright individual." Aguilar's experience includes director of former Gov. Gray Davis's Inland Empire Regional Office from 2001 to 2003 and campaign manager for the San Bernardino County transportation initiative in 2004.
