TEXAS CITY, Texas – When AMOCO Federal Credit Union employees tell members they will go “above and beyond” to meet their financial needs, they dress the part to show they mean it. On President’s Day, the credit union hosted more than 1,700 members at its 69th Annual Meeting and Membership Expo, under the theme “Superheroes Uniting to Save Members.” Theme decorations were visible everywhere. An enormous stage was surrounded by a city skyline, most employees wore AMOCO “Superhero” shirts, and tellers donned costumes as The Incredible Hulk, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, and Super Girl, among others. “We chose the Super Hero theme for two reasons,” said Tina Linquist, AMOCO FCU’s Marketing Director. “Internally, we wanted to convey the message to our staff that they can and should be heroes everyday by helping members, providing exceptional service, and always going above and beyond. Along with this message, we wanted to stress the importance of cross-selling or `educating’ members about the many ways we can save them money by using our services. “Externally, we wanted to convey the message to our membership that we are here to help them and to save them from high costs on services and loan rates charged by other financial institutions. We even promoted family membership, inviting our members to be super heroes as well, by referring relatives to join our credit union.” Held at the Charles T. Doyle Convention Center, the evening included the credit union’s annual business meeting, a membership expo, door prizes and giveaways, as well as refreshments. In 2005, AMOCO FCU added to its annual meeting a membership expo, with exhibitors showcasing credit union products and services. The purpose behind the change was to inform members about credit union products and services, such as checking, online bill pay, real estate and car loans, in a fun and exciting way. Because of the overwhelmingly positive response received from members, vendors, and credit union employees, the credit union repeated the format this year with 40 exhibitors. Nearly 100 credit union employees were on-hand to assist members and answer questions. “The response from our membership has been very positive. They really enjoyed the theme, message and decorations. It has also been successful from a financial standpoint. January and February have been record-breaking months for loan growth, deposit growth and membership,” Linquist said. “Although this year’s attendance of 1,707 was slightly lower than last year’s attendance of 1,889, we were very pleased, because it was a holiday.” -
