BETHESDA, Md. – Cardtronics, the largest independent deployer of ATMs in the country has purchased the Allpoint Network, the ATM network which provides fee-free access to ATMs nationwide in exchange for a monthly fee from participating credit unions and banks. Cardtronics has been Allpoint’s largest ATM partner for some time and the purchase will allow Allpoint to reassure prospective clients who might have questioned the stability of the partnership, according to Ben Psillas, Allpoint CEO. The network, which has gained steadily more credit union clients over the years, will continue to market its services primarily to credit unions, Psillas said, but now with additional resources as well. Psillas said the sale would allow Allpoint to offer a degree of personalization and branding of certain Cardtronics ATMs which many of a credit union’s members might use. “We find that not only do credit unions like being able to offer their members fee-free access across the country but also at the convenience store down the street,” Psillas said. “Now our credit unions will be able to welcome those members at those machines with branded screens,” Psillas added. Some credit unions may also be interested in having Cardtronics drive their ATMs, a service that Allpoint will also be able to provide, Psillas said.
