FLINT, Mich. – Security FCU from its inception has had strong ties with Flint – it was chartered in 1949 as Flint Buick Employees FCU – and the credit union’s ties with the city continues even with a community charter. The $232.8 million credit union has extended a financing program that offers a 1% annual percentage rate discount on new vehicles powered by the Vortec 4.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine built at General Motor’s Flint Engine South plant. The engine is used in the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier and Saab 9-TX sport-utility vehicles. GM full-size heavy-duty crew-cab pickups, including the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, and medium-duty commercial trucks also were added. The program has been further expanded to cover the Pontiac Grand Prix and 2006 Buick Lucerne with the 38000 engine. Security FCU President/CEO Terry Pierce said the credit union was pleased to support both those assembling the vehicles and those who are purchasing them. “It’s a great program that supports the entire community, including those businesses that supply parts to the Powertrain Flint North plant, the Flint Engine South plant and the GM Flint Truck Assembly Plant,” he added. Rates offered on the loans depend on the member’s credit history, and the best rate a member could currently receive with the discount is 3.99% on a 48-month loan. Security FCU has 40,000 members.
