Alliant Credit Union, Chicago, has awarded $5,000 in gift cards redeemable for computers to members ages 5-17 who submitted creative entries answering the questions “What Do I Want to be When I Grow Up?” and “How Can a Computer Enrich My Education?” as part of its National Education Program. The “PC scholarship” program awarded nine gift cards for computers to students in three age groups-5-9, 10-13, and 14-17-who submitted their responses using any media (written essay, drawing, painting, photography, video or web site) they desired. Borrowing on the theme of traditional school symbols, the award categories included the “Golden Apple” ($1,000 computer gift card), “Silver Key” ($500 gift card), and “Brass Bell” ($250 gift card). Golden Apple winners in each category were Daniel Hollar, Chris Masaquel and Erik Mathre. Tower Federal Credit Union, Laurel, Md., young members have been awarded scholarships from The Maryland Credit Union Foundation. Caitlin Heavener and Maria Buller were among the 10 statewide winners, and they each received $1,000. The scholarships were awarded based on essay submissions on the subject of “Young Adults and Teens: Meeting Their Financial Needs and Preferences.” Service One Credit Union, Bowling Green, Ky., has awarded scholarships to four lucky recipients. A $500 annual scholarship was awarded to Jessica Dilsaver; $250 scholarships were awarded to Pamelia Rena Anderson and Beth Mayer Rountree; and a $165 scholarship was presented to Carmen Harrison. Partnering with the Western Kentucky University Foundation, the Service One Credit Union Endowed Scholarship was established to provide credit union members an opportunity to receive financial assistance in furthering their education. Keesler Federal Credit Union, Biloxi, Miss., has announced the 2005 Lisa J. Stubbs Memorial Scholarship Essay winners. The recipients who each received $1,000 include Erin McTaggert Amanda Mayo and Amy Loflin. In addition the 2005 adult student $1,000 scholarship recipients are Elizabeth Romoser and Elaine Greer. Since 1987, Keesler FCU has awarded $65,500 in scholarships to college bound credit union members. Educational Community Credit Union, Kalamazoo, Mich., has awarded $500 scholarships to Western Michigan University's Homecoming King and Queen. The students were recognized for their outstanding service and academic skills.
