WASHINGTON-In keeping with the holiday season, the Credit Union Legislative Action Council of CUNA has now created a secure Web site for credit union members to make online contributions from their Visa or Master Card credit cards. “We continually try to do things to grow the PAC receipts and make it easier for people to contribute,” CUNA Political Director Trey Hawkins explained. Earlier this year, in accordance with a new Federal Election Commission ruling, CULAC began a direct payroll deduction tool for credit union staff and their members to contribute to the political action committee. CULAC has always taken credit card contributions, he added, but now eligible donors can log onto www.cuna.org and click on the `Political Affairs’ button in the left hand column, then the credit card logo to the right, to make contributions. Only members of credit unions that have given prior approval may contribute, Hawkins said, and the link is password protected.
