PHOENIX — Members of the $2.4 billion Desert Schools FCU can choose the credit union’s Visa gift card again this year after the CU sold 13,000 of the cards between October and December of 2004. The cards will be available from the CU’s branches as well as online and will be available in any dollar amount between $20 and $500. They will cost $2.50 if purchased in branches and $3.50 if purchased online. They can also be purchased in amounts of 20 or more for $1.95 per card. Last year, the credit union made no distinction between online and in branch prices, but charged $3.95 for gift cards up to $250 and $6.95 for cards between $251 and $500. In November of this year, the credit union sold over 3,600 cards and expected to sell many more in December. The cards also carry a time-based penalty. After 12 months, a maintenance fee of $2.50 will be deducted from the gift card. A replacement card will cost $8.95.
